What a wonderfully thorough opinion! I love the artistic aspect of makeup. What bothers me most about makeup is the insane consumption cycle of some people. When I started getting into makeup, I discovered the trend "hitting pan." All this time I assumed that everyone uses their makeup, until it is empty. Naturally one stops using certain items for other reasons, like changing taste, release of a better product, but I thought that "hitting pan" was the standard. I find the videos of hauls and collections shocking. How could you possibly use that in a lifetime?
Honestly, I don’t see makeup itself as the issue. It’s a tool and it depends on how you wield it. Makeup is supposed to be a creative and fun outlet. I am fond of my red and plum lipsticks and lipglosses and I like experimenting with them. I am however not ashamed of my bare face and I don’t use makeup as a crutch. I can survive without it. Does it mean I don’t prefer makeup? I always think a little makeup can and should improve your look. A cat eye, plum lipstick, mascara and maybe some highlighter and concealer with my bronze sunscreen make me look and feel prettier.
The problem is when women are so ashamed of their skin and face that they plaster themselves in makeup and refuse to leave the house with it. Makeup can be an armour but in my honest opinion, it shouldn’t really be. There are women who are so ashamed of their looks, they don’t even allow their husbands to see them sans the slap. That’s when makeup can get problematic.
It doesn’t help all these celebs use endless filters, fillers, plastic surgery, expensive makeup and expensive facial treatments and claim their cheap skincare and makeup, which is really rebranded colour pop cosmetics (I’m looking at you Lylie) is what makes you this flawless. Nobody is that flawless and young girls are suffering so much because of this. The Love Island and Made in Chelsea casts don’t naturally look like that. They’re walking advertisements for Harley Street clinics. Let’s take back the culture from them and make makeup a fun thing to do for pleasure, not to create a war mask.
I wasn’t expecting to write a mini Novella with this comment. But it’s interesting. I think I’ll write more about this soon. Thank you for the idea Abigail! 💕💕
Thanks so much for postponing book club. I had to miss the last few and I am really interested in this book, but it has SO much information I am reading slower than usual and could really use another week.
I agree that makeup increases confidence. In fact, when I got the notification email for this post I was looking at my new contour palate I got online. LOL If anyone has any tips on contouring please let me know!!
I agree, I don't understand why we are taking skin care advice from them in the first place. Part of the reason why models are successful is their natural beauty, so they might know how to highlight beauty, rather than attaining it. Either way I'm more interested to hear what the professionals, supporting the celebrities have to say.

I've honestly loved learning more about Jewish faith and history through your content, what an interesting connection to makeup!
