I really needed this article about anxiety in my life right now. Thank you

In my personal experience, when I say "my anxiety" I'm referring to my chronic, diagnosed anxiety disorder not just the emotion. Not that the two are mutually exclusive of course. I mean, I feel anxious when I shouldn't because of my anxiety. It has been co opted into referring to just feeling anxious. I think is a symptom of a larger issue, a lot of people treat mental health struggles as something quirky or even something to be romanticized rather than something that should be taken kinda seriously. Anyways, those are just my thought, which are of course very subjective.

I love the grounding and calming techniques you shared! A lot of those have really helped me too! (Of course I am very single so it's a heavy blanket or my cat, not a husband in my case lol) Both chronic anxiety and feeling anxious are no fun so it's good to have things you know make you feel better!

Thank you for sharing!!

Thanks for being honest and open about your anxious feelings, Abby. I get that way often at bedtime and will use some of your techniques. I try to distract myself out of it and the things you shared will help.

I love hair bows! Even our program director at work rocks them! They make me feel super feminine and dainty 😂

I've always loved hair bows! I have a collection and they're my favorite hair accessory! Nothing juvenile about feeling beautiful 🥰

Hi! I'm trying to get into book club. I didn't realize there was a different process than before so I hadn't RSVPd. Excited to talk about the book :)

I RSVP'd late! Can I still join? I think I missed getting the link :(

Any luck yet?

No :( I even resubmitted the form wondering if I missed something on the confirmation page, but it just says "thank you for your response!"

So excited for you to meet your little one!! I somehow always vacuum on Saturday during her nap and it’s kinda calming haha.

I guess we can assume no real bookclub tonight then? Hopefully we can reschedule.

Yeah, I hope so! I am sad to have missed another one. I missed the last 2 as well 😞

Vacuuming IS calming! I used to hate it but I got a stick vacuum that I absolutely love and now I actually find it fun haha

I can't wait to meet him! Thank you 🥰

Does the vacuum ever wake your daughter during her naps?

Even though I work part time from home I still do chores on weekends too! I think that’s just the norm everywhere.

My daughter is 3. Don’t listen to what people say, 2 and 3 in my opinion has been the best age!

That's amazing! Honestly I'm excited for every stage hehe I can't wait to see my little guy grow up :)

I am very lucky that I'm not actually working right now, so I'm able to do about 90% of the household chores during the week while my husband is at work, so we're able to spend more time just hanging out on the weekends.

I think you're right about the norm having become weekend chores, though. It seems like everyone I know has to devote at least one day in their weekend to cleaning or food prep or other chores that for me are part of my day to day, but they have to do all at once.

I only got about 20 pages in lol but I loved the beginning. I can’t wait to finish the rest. I agree with you Rachael about prioritizing Shabbat. Since my daughters been born Friday is typically our family night where we have dinner or go out and then come home and watch a movie and light the candles. It’s simple but now my daughter really looks forward to the ritual.

I was the opposite lol! I was really unsure about the book in the beginning, but then I loved it more and more as I read it. Having those dedicated family times is SOOO important. I really want to find a way to implement more intentional family days, as he talked about in the book!

How old is your daughter (if you're comfortable sharing)?

Yeah I think reading this book that extols Shabbat, oddly enough from a non-Jewish author, helped me to understand the real value of the tradition and practice of setting aside a real rest day. I was already thinking about it, but the book encouraged me to move forward and seek out opportunities to shift from full-time to part-time work. So many chores and things get pushed to the weekend, and if I'm able to take care of more of that stuff during the weekdays then it will make it such that our family is better able to truly rest.

Sarah, @Tess and I have been having our own lil book club in the comments section because we don’t have the link.

No, we still haven't gotten in :(

Same here. Sigh. I really enjoyed the book though, I thought it was so interesting how the author brought up Dan Buttener who has a really fantastic series out called Live to 100. I'll keep waiting for a little while longer, I certainly have some work on the computer I could get done.

Yes, same! I loved this book, I was so excited to talk about it with everyone! And also just be at book club in general because I missed the last 2 :(

Same I couldn't come to the last one because I had a conflict with my show, but I was able to be there for the Conservatism one which I think was in July. These are so fun, I've been looking forward to this!

Expand full comment

I missed the Conservatism one but I don't remember why, I think I had a scheduling conflict, and the last one in August I missed because we were staying at my husband's parents' while we were evacuated and I wasn't able to find my own space to participate. I hope this isn't going to be the norm :( The bookclub is one of (if not the) best parts about subscribing
