Being Classic STARTS With Personal Goals.
Hello classic crew! I hope you enjoyed last week’s guest post - make sure to check out Mrs. Midwest’s article if you haven’t already. I know that I learned a lot from her words!
I have been thinking a lot lately about personal goals and self-improvement. I know I’m not the only one who can sometimes find myself in a rut, growth-wise. I’ll carry on for a few weeks not taking positive steps toward being my best self, and suddenly I’ll realize my moods are worse than usual; I’m grumpy and less productive; I’m unhappy with where I’m at.
It’s never a fun moment.
But those are the best times to make a change and start incorporating better habits into your daily life! I know that for me, often these times of stasis begin with the impending of the changing season. As we are now in Daylight Saving’s Time, it’s so easy to get caught up in the depressive early darkness that can give even the most hardy individuals some level of seasonal depression.
One of the things I try so hard to impress on myself and you all is that when you’re unsatisfied with how you’re feeling, you don’t have to suffer through it. That’s the time to take action and try to improve yourself. I know that when I take control, I feel so much better about everything because I’m not just letting myself get swept away with the tide of my emotions.
So, when I started feeling down, unproductive, and stagnant, I decided I needed to reorganize and restructure my approach to daily tasks. I work from home, so it’s easy to waste time and treat my schedule with too much flexibility. As well, often when my house feels cluttered or my day feels chaotic, my mind can feel the same way. So I knew I needed to start by clearing my mind, and then move forward with positive steps to make my days better.
And that’s where this list of “My Goals” came into play. In a way, this is like an affirmation. It’s something I can look at, read over, and know how I want to approach my daily tasks. And what’s wonderful about something like this is that it really does remind me what’s going to help give me meaning and bring me fulfillment.
The word that often comes to mind when I’m reminding myself to get back on track is intentional. Intentional is the best word to describe making mindful decisions that you choose to make, not decisions made in the heat of the moment. Again, this gives you a sense of control over your actions that really does help make you feel empowered facing each day.
So take a look over “My Goals” and feel free to print it, share it, or put as the background on your phone. I have mine taped to my wall, so every morning I can look at it and know what I want for myself before navigating the rest of my day. And let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
