ANNOUNCING: The Classically Abby A.V. Club
Another exciting announcement - I’m finally launching the Classically Abby A.V. Club! Every month, we will watch a movie and discuss it from a classic perspective. As well, we will learn how to identify the film industry’s pervasive Leftist ideology sprinkled throughout films that seem harmless, but in fact heavily influence our worldviews. This month, we will start with Breakfast at Tiffany’s - a classic! If you’d like to include your friends, consider a group subscription to have more lovely women join the fun!
ANNOUNCING: Monthly Zoom “Girl Chats” Discussing Motherhood and Relationships
Another wonderful new addition to your premium subscription are monthly Zoom “girl chats”! Every month, we will have an opportunity for our community to get on Zoom and talk about motherhood, dating, marriage, and…life in general! This has been in the works for a while, and I have always wanted to create a community here. Mark your calendars for September 1st at 8:15 PM EST - can’t wait to see you there!
ANNOUNCING: This Month's Book Club Selection!
I’m excited to share this month’s book club selection! This month we are reading fiction (we switch up month-to-month) and the book we will be reading is…The Undomestic Goddess! Since we have been some doing some major reading, I thought it would be fun to do something more fun and laidback. A quintessential beach read to finish out the summer! And the values align perfectly with what we talk about here. I can’t wait to discuss it with you all!
WEEKLY ARTICLE: Four Hairstyles That Will Solve Your Bad Hair Day!
Hello friends and happy Tuesday! I hope you all are as excited about the new additions to your premium subscription as I am! It has been an exciting few weeks leading up to today, so I’m really happy to share all of these updates with you. I’d love to know in the comments what you are most excited about, so let me know down below.
Today, I want to talk about HAIR. Since I’ve never really lived in an extremely humid climate before, I am currently learning how to style my hair in a way that I’m happy with. Every time I try and curl my hair, the curls fall out after a couple of hours. Every time I try and straighten my hair, my waves come back full force in a short period of time. And when I leave my hair natural? The bottom layers have great texture, but the top layer lies limp and flat.
What that means is that I have had a lot of bad hair days the past couple of months - and I have had to resort to some clever hairstyles to make myself look presentable! So today, I want to share four hairstyles that I constantly resort to on those days where my hair looks less than great. And they still make me feel lovely! So if you too struggle with bad hair days, buckle in. I’ve got some tips for you!
1. Braids
If your hair is just not cooperating, a braid is always a great solution. Braids consolidate any frizz, any mess, and turn it into something pretty and elegant. I love to braid my hair for more casual days. It makes it look like I tried - and as a bonus, my hair actually ends up styled by the end of the day with loose waves.
Now, there are a ton of ways you can use braids on a bad hair day. You can do a simple plait down your back. You can do double braids if you want something a little more cute. You can do double braids and then pin them around your head in a milkmaid style. And you can do French braids if you want all of your hair out of your face - a great option for an active day! So if you’re looking for a more casual, fun style - braids are the way to go.
2. Pinned Back Sides
This is my favorite go-to hairstyle, and I do it ALL. THE. TIME. Because the top layer of my hair is straight and the bottom layer of my hair is wavy, I love to pin back the top layer of my hair to reveal my natural texture. Without doing much of anything, my hair looks so much more styled and put together.
Even if you don’t have the same hair texture that I do, pinning back the sides of your hair looks really feminine. You can simply part your hair down the center, grab the side portion of your hair, and twist it back. Then take two bobby pins. The first you’ll insert directly into the hair and against your head. The second you’ll cross over it to make an X and lock it in place.
I’ve done this as an everyday hairstyle and I’ve done this for more fancy occasions. And that’s what I love about it! It’s so versatile and always looks great.
3. Headbands
This may be the easiest “hairstyle” on this list, but wow, does it come in handy! Throwing on a headband on a bad hair day is such an easy solution. For example, when I haven’t washed my hair in a few days and it’s starting to look oily, I can put on a headband and it automatically looks like I have more volume than I do. It disguises any oil that someone might notice and acts as a great accessory to my outfit as well.
You can get really pretty headbands at Target or on Amazon, and you can get ones that match the season as well. I have a few velvet headbands which are more appropriate for fall and winter, and a wicker headband that’s great for warmer weather.
4. Buns
Putting your hair in a bun is an easy way to hide a bad hair day. Simply pull your hair up into a ponytail with your hands, twist your hair around itself, and wrap a hair tie around the base. Then secure it with bobby pins if it feels loose.
Whenever I put my hair up in a bun, people ask me if I’m going somewhere special, so you know it looks put together! To add a little bit of something extra, pull out a couple of face-framing pieces and curl them away from your face. And voila! You look fabulous.

I love the hair tips!! I've done all of these, but if I'm not going anywhere I usually just end up putting my bad-hair-day-hair in a messy bun on top of my head... These ideas are much cuter! It's nice to see them all in one place and a great reminder that it's not so hard to look cute!
So much exciting news! I'm new around here, how do we join the zoom calls when it's time?
