Oh my goodness, Classic Crew! It feels like FOREVER since I last sat down to write an article for my Substack newsletter. Time moves so differently once you have a baby - it flies by and also moves so slowly. If you told me it has only been five weeks since my son was born, it would be hard for me to believe. But if you told me my son was already five weeks old, I’d say you were lying! It’s a weird and crazy paradox that defies explanation.
Well, Baby Boy Roth is here, I’m deep into motherhood, and life will never be the same! Now I know what people mean when they say that you just can’t understand parenthood until you have a child - if I tried to explain it to myself before my son was born, I still wouldn’t have any clue what was in store. He is just the most special person and I love being his mama - and covering his adorable face in kisses!
Before I continue, I want to reassure those of you who are not interested in motherhood content that my content won’t fundamentally change. I’ll write articles about my experience as a mother, sure, but it won’t be all that I do here. I still love talking about dating, relationships, femininity, traditional values, and being classic. That won’t change! I’ll just have more to talk about in the motherhood arena now that I’m experiencing it myself.
But I am really excited to share so many of my thoughts with you all here. Motherhood is a rollercoaster for sure, and even as I am the BIGGEST proponent of it, I also think it’s imperative to be honest about the experience. We all know by now that social media is terrible for people’s mental health because it’s a highlight reel - it shows everyone at their best and makes you feel like you’re odd for having bad days every now and then. Motherhood content is no different. When I was scrolling Instagram in those first days of motherhood and seeing content creators talking about their euphoria while I was overwhelmed, exhausted, terrified, and adjusting, I felt terrible. And I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. So I plan on sharing everything I’m going through - highs and lows - with you all in a really open way.
Plus, I definitely want to share how to be classic when you have so little time and energy - and what classic looks like under these circumstances. I didn’t realize how easy I had it until I barely had time to use the restroom, let alone do my makeup and hair for an hour. All I can say for now is the most classic thing a woman can do is be a good mother to her child - and if that means you’re covered in baby spit-up because you just gave your son a good meal, that’s A-Okay!
How are you all? How has life been these past few weeks? I can’t wait to read your comments - I’ve truly missed you all. I love this community so much and I look forward to rejoining it with all my new perspectives!
