Quote of the Week:
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” — F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
Classic Style Inspo
Summer dresses and hair scarves are just the perfect combo. I love the look of a woman who looks feminine but who also looks like she is taking care of business, rolling up her sleeves, and caring for her home.
Things I’ve Been Loving: OxiClean Gel Stick
I am currently visiting my in-laws and found this in my mother-in-law’s laundry room. This thing is AMAZING! It has gotten out some really tough stains, and I’m definitely going to order one for when we get home because it’s so great!

How To Have The BEST Summer Without Ever Leaving Home!
Happy Monday, classic crew! I hope you all are thriving :) This past week was a bit crazy but wonderful. I actually had another speech with Young America’s Foundation for their National High School Leadership Conference! I love working with YAF, so make sure to check it out - I think you’ll really enjoy it. But, as usual, I had a crazy travel day to get to where I needed to go.
I’m in New York at the moment, but I’m not really close to any big airports. That meant I had to wake up at 5:50 AM and drive for two hours just to get on the plane! Luckily, the flight was only 45 minutes, which was lovely. I arrived a bit early, so I squeezed in a little shopping trip and mani/pedi (much needed!), then headed to the YAF headquarters to speak to the high school students gathered there. Immediately following my speech, I went right back to the airport, flew back to New York, and then completed my day with another two-hour drive. I was in bed by 11 PM. If you want to follow this whole journey, I actually shared the whole thing on my Instagram stories and it’s now a highlight, so you can watch my whole day!
Then, this past weekend, Jacob, Mr. Baby, and I spent all of Sunday together, exploring the area and enjoying one another’s company. It was such a wonderful, memorable summer day, and it made me think that I’d really like to share with you a few ways you can embrace this summer right where you live. So let’s get into it, shall we?
Explore your own city. Since visiting Jacob’s parents, I’ve been doing research into local spots we can take Mr. Baby to see. We have gone to the library, a local duck pond, and soon enough I plan to visit the thrift store with him. Even though my husband grew up here, he’d never been to some of these places. It’s so funny, because often it’s the locals who don’t even realize there are so many cool spots right around the corner from where they live. So, let that be a lesson to you this summer: explore your own city. Do research into all the cool places you’ve never been that might only be a hop, skip, and a jump away. It’s amazing to explore your own backyard and become an expert in your local area. And summer is the perfect time!
Drive around looking at different neighborhoods (maybe even during your child’s naptime!). Yesterday, Jacob told me he really wanted to drive around looking at the homes and neighborhoods near where he grew up. While Mr. Baby took his nap, we drove around for over an hour, just seeing the local real estate, parks, and main streets. It was a blast. Get in the car, put on your favorite music, grab a couple of cold drinks (non-alcoholic, of course!) and just drive. It’s such a fun experience and tells you so much about where you live or where you’re from!
Find a way to get in the water. Gosh, it’s hot. It’s hot pretty much everywhere. It wouldn’t be summer otherwise! Getting in the water is just the best thing you can do, but that won’t look the same for all of us. Some of us have our own pools, some of us have public pools, some of us have lakes, and some of us have beaches. Some of us might just have to stick with a little blow up pool in the backyard, or running through the sprinklers. But throwing on your bathing suit, splashing around, and defusing some of that heat is such a great way to celebrate summertime - and it can be done in the simplest of ways without traveling one inch.
Enjoy some ice cream. Just do it. DO IT. Ice cream is the best snack in summertime; it melts down your hand while you frantically try to lick it before it reaches your sleeve; it tastes delicious and has so many unique flavors; and it improves every hot day with something cool and sweet. Don’t worry about the calories. Just try out a few local creameries and enjoy it. This is the season in which to do so!
Make some summer routines that are unique to the season. Something I’ve decided to start doing is incorporating seasonal routines into my life. I love the idea of doing something unique to each season every time it rolls around. My parents-in-law live next door to a horse farm - so every morning in the summer when we’re visiting them, Mr. Baby and I take carrots and feed the horses to start the day. I like making myself a cup of iced coffee with almond milk every morning. Perhaps there’s a local bagel shop that makes delicious bagels you enjoy - make a summer routine of picking up bagels once a week and enjoying them Sunday morning! Perhaps you like hopping in the pool to get in a daily swim - do it all summer long. It will make your summer uniquely wonderful and give you a routine to look forward to as the seasons change.
Those are just a few fun recommendations to celebrate summertime right where you live. Do you have any fun recommendations? Share them below!
Canada is lake Central, there's nowhere you can go in Canada without being close to a lake (even in the dryest parts of the country lol), so water activities are a HUGE part of seemingly every Canadian's Summer activities! This year my friend took me paddle boarding for the first time and once I get my fishing license we're going to have a fishing trip, too!
