Classic Style Inspo
Summer is coming and that means summer dresses! A midi-length tiered skirt is very in, and if you choose it in the right fabric, you’ll stay cool all summer long.
Things I’ve Been Loving:
Jacob bought me this crossbody belt bag for Mother’s Day and I love the size of it! Many belt bags are a bit too small for my liking. To be honest, I like to have a few more things with me than just my keys, wallet, and phone! So having the extra space for a few things helps a lot. Plus, it’s cute!

6 Fun Ways To Get Ready For Summer!
Hello wonderful people! How are you all today? I hope you all had a lovely Mother’s Day celebrating and/or being celebrated. My husband bought me a beautiful ring and pair of earrings from Ana Luisa, as well as a belt bag from Amazon (linked above). I told him what I really wanted was just a nice, heartfelt note - and he wrote one that meant the world to me. I love gifts, I love quality time, but this Mother’s Day, what I really needed were words of affirmation. And Jacob wrote something truly beautiful.
We got together with my family in the morning and spent some time together, and then headed home to enjoy the afternoon with Mr. Baby. It was a lovely day and I feel so grateful to God for the opportunity to be a mom, to raise my son, and do it with the man I love.
Summer is just around the corner and I am excited…and also slightly dreading it! I’m excited because there’s just something special about the summer mood. Kids are out of school, everyone is just a little more relaxed and laidback, people take vacations, and there’s a general air of fun all around. I love the smell of chlorine and sunscreen because it takes me back to summers as a kid, and I love summer days barbecuing and drinking beer!
On the other hand, summer is HOT. I used to love the heat, but as I’ve gotten older and as I’ve lived in Florida, I’ve learned that those hot summer days can be ROUGH. For example: I love going for morning walks and if I want to survive those, I’ll have to be out of the house before 8 AM! And going to the beach is great, but when it’s 100 degrees outside, it’s difficult to even sit on the sand.
But I thought it would be fun to share 6 fun ways to get ready for summer. You all know that I love embracing each season, so let’s just get right into it!
Buy a new pair of sandals. Sandals are an absolute necessity in summertime. I tend to wear mine so much that they get completely worn out, so each year I have to buy a new pair! Find a fun pair to wear out with friends or a comfortable pair you can wear to walk long distances. Choosing a new pair of sandals that works with your lifestyle and wardrobe is a great way to start getting ready for summer. Since I live in Florida, sandals have become my shoe of choice pretty much year-round, so I need a few different styles to wear with different outfits. I have a few dressier pairs, a few pairs of heels, some cute sandals that are comfortable enough but that I wouldn’t wear for long distances, and then my most comfortable sandals. Of course, you don’t need all those - but choose something that gets you excited for June, July, and August!
Get a pedicure. With great sandals come great responsibility…and by that I mean, pedicures! It’s so important to keep your feet and toes looking nice if you’re going to be showing them off all summer long. So get a pedicure as we get closer to summer! Get a fun color or a classic color, whatever you’re feeling. My last pedicure I went with pink, but my current pedicure is orange because I was feeling something more funky. As I mentioned in my last post, pedicures are a great way to spend some time on yourself, but they’re also a great way to get in the headspace for warmer weather.
Get a fun haircut or try a new hairstyle. I love doing something fun with my hair each summer. Whether you do something more drastic like a fun haircut or dying it a little lighter, or something simpler like learning how to tie your hair up in a cute bun, doing your hair can be a great way to embrace the new season! I remember one summer I was just so hot I cut off all my hair into a bob. That was so cool! Another summer I went for highlights. This summer, I might just learn how to tie my hair up off my neck so that I can keep cool as the weather keeps heating up. (Although, I have to say - I’ve been dreaming about cutting off some length…but I don’t know if I should do it! Let me know your thoughts!)
Make lemonade! Guys. This is the summer I want to learn how to make lemonade. I buy lemons in bulk anyways because I use a lot of lemon juice in my cooking - but I would love to learn how to make fresh lemonade!! I’m sure it’s not complicated, but I think it is just SO typical of summertime and that’s the absolute best. So, learn to make lemonade or if you already know how, whip up a batch in preparation for summer!
Find a fun restaurant with outdoor seating. Is there anything better than a warm summer night, sitting outside with your friends and/or family and eating a meal out together? Scout out a new restaurant you’ve never been to, maybe on a lake, by the beach, or even just at an outdoor mall you enjoy, and make it a new favorite! Perhaps it will become your go-to restaurant this summer and you never would have gone if you hadn’t sought it out.
Go to the library and choose some fun summer reads. Summer reading is all about relaxing, in my opinion. Of course, I also love to read more educational books, but sometimes it’s nice to sit on the beach or in your backyard and just read what I like to call, “Book TV.” You’re reading, which is nicer than watching television, but the book is light and easy enough that you can relax while you’re reading it. So head to your local library and scout out some fun summer reads! I actually started a community book club as well as the one that I run here on Substack, and we are reading what I would definitely call a summer read right now. Does it teach me anything? Probably not. Is it fun? Most definitely!
And those are six ways you can get ready for summer! What are you doing to embrace the warmer months? Let me know in the comments below!
Alright Abby, lemonade: I promise, it's super easy!
There are 3 ingredients in lemonade:
1. Lemon juice
2. Water
3. Sugar
That's literally it!
You can find recipes that will give you an idea of ratios, but I personally like to wing it depending on how I'm feeling. I usually use less sugar and more lemon juice, because I like it really bitter and I don't like it sweet, but playing with the ratios will give you very different results! So make a few pitchers and see what you like.
I also like to add other things for different flavours. Strawberries are probably my favourite addition, but I know people who add mint, ginger, or even a little bit of cream or milk to make a creamy lemonade! (I don't personally like creamy lemonade, but I know people who swear by it!)
Have fun with it!! Making lemonade is my favourite part of summer!
All great ideas Abby! And I love the style inspo! I’ve been thinking about buying a new dress or two for the summer, so this helps point me in a good direction. 😊
Since I live in MD (all 4 seasons, though the weather can be cranky at times 😆), I have two sets of clothes: summer and winter. So each year, around this time, I’ll spend a weekend afternoon switching out the winter with the summer, and washing everything before wearing it! I also like to look at my wardrobe to see if anything needs to be tossed out and if I need to shop for something new.
